Ray Studio is a simple script for creating effect of light rays (or volume light). This script is a some kind of wrapper around standard radial blur filter in GIMP but it allowes to get result for several seconds instead of dozens of minutes. This script use only GIMP procedures and don't require any external scripts or plug-ins. Script doesn't has any license, so you may use it's code for any purpose. read more »

From the script site "http://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/schani/sharpblur/":
The purpose of this script is to blur an image while retaining its edges. While this may seem like a contradiction, it really is not: sharp edges get preserved while soft edges are discarded.
The main area of application for this script has been the retouching of bad scans, but it has many other areas of use.
Originally created by Mark Probst, Ported from 2.0 to 2.6 by Lennart Rolland.
A surface blur filter based on a simplified version Porikli's O(1) bilateral filter.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the algorithm memory overheads can be severe. This filter uses a tile based implementation, which limits overheads to about 64mb.
On the plus side it is reasonably fast and scales well with filter radius.
When installed it should appear under filters->blur->simple bilateral
There is a mercurial repository which will be kept up to date with the latest code on my web site. This can be accessed with:

and the current picture itself with a border and shadow around it as foreground

Make a blurry border around the selection and make everything else transparent. Designed for "highlighting" part of a screenshot or other large image.
This blur function is designed to reliably blur image details - especially single words (e.g. map labels) - reliably while retaining the overall image layout.
