This is a script to generate animated lightning bolts, like the one below, with various options.

Here is a quick summary of the options for this script:
Image X and Y size: Controls the dimensions of the final image. Recommended dimensions are a really tall image.
Number of frames: Number of frames (layers) in the final image.
Instability: large values make for quick fluctuations and jagged lightning, small values make for gentler curves read more »
This plug-in uses a shaped gradient and multiple layers to make a staggered border of different colored lightning. The image can be from 300x300 to 3000x3000, and the image can have up to 20 frames of lightning. The hues of the lightning gradually change as you go further toward the center of the image.
It's a difficult image to try to describe, so an image of what this script does is attached. This is an 800x600 image, using 5 frames. Using one frame will give a lightning border that can be used for any sized image.
The script works with GIMP Version 2.6. Enjoy!
This is a script that is based on the lightning tutorial (http://gug.sunsite.dk/tutorials/tomcat9/). It was tested on GIMP 2.4 (so, using the new scheme engine).
It comes with two versions; one that creates an image of lightning and another that creates an animation (using layers as frames) of lightning with parameters to modify the turbulence so the lightning bolt appears to dissipate over time.
