According to "Tips" I'm supposed to have a .gimp-2.4.bak file that holds the gimp configuration info. I don't seem to have that file. I have upgraded to 2.4, and I understand that on start up I was supposed to get a screen for configuring gimp. No such screen appeared. How can I get the configuration file working? I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.
.gimp-2.4.bak file
to see a file that has a point as prefix you should use option "visualize hidden files"...that point means that are system files and as default system files are hidden
If you upgrade gimp will use previous config files, to avoid that you may first from synaptic, mark gimp for COMPLETE removing then reinstall.
But i believe most ,maybe all the options you get when installing are also available from Toolbox/file/preference
