GIMP Plugin Registry

Is it possible to save files in the old DEGAS file format? I'm currently using GIMP to collect scanned images extremely satifactorily, but I need to convert the .xcf files it creates into DEGAS files for use in another program.

I tried saving the files with .PI3 extenstions, but GIMP complained about unknown file type...
