How do I count and copy the number of pixels in a selected area?

I currently use the histogram, but that shows results in a very small font and cannot be copied to the clipboard.
I need to paste the pixel count to excel.
Any script or solution for this?

As you showed that posting raw code is not ideal (you didn't copy the first line), I've fixed another problem with it and made it available to download from GimpScripts:

When I refresh the Scripts it gives and error- eval: unbound variable: selffilename
Can you write the script so it is ready for copy&paste? I am not experienced with scripts.
Also, what do you refer to the error console? How is this activated?

Here's a script that put the histogram data into the Error console, where it can be copied from.
