Metadata in common, especially XMP in TIFFs ...

I have to slightly edit a batch of TIFF images. They have been thoroughly tagged with mainly XMP metadata that contain image descriptions and copyright information etc. Typically brightness/contrast adjustment is needed, and then save (replace) the TIFF file. And Gimp is excellent for that and more.

Is there a simple way (by a plugin or whatever) to ensure that all metadata is preserved after edit? (Except that some information such as, for example, pixels-with etc. may be modified at cropping).

This is a much more important issue than complete metadata handling, since that may be carried out by other means (e.g. exiv2). But it is fatal if all is lost just at a simple ad-hoc edit ...
