Can GIMP open a PHOTOSHOP CS3 PSD file containing "slides"

I am trying to open a PHOTOSHOP CS3 PSD file containing "slides", i.e, multiple images in the one PSD file. (It is for use in a slider type control). When I eopn w/ GIMP, I see the last slide but don't know if I can view others or how? Help would be appricated.
I know this is asking a lot, but if GIMP can't do this, do you know which FREE program can?

It sounds like you have all your slides (images), in one group.
Un group them (place them on separate layers) first , then open the PSD in Gimp.
Gimp-2.6.11 does not recognize group folders from PSD files.Nor does it recognize layer styles from PSD files.Just a heads up.
If you have PS CS5 Extended and 3-D capability, Gimp can open the resulted 3-D image layers. :)
I found that out just the other day while trying to open a 3-D rendered PSD i downloaded from the internet.So that is a plus!
