I really need help with this. I am trying to make some decent sigs but all the good images that i want to use are png or jpeg. But when i try to open them in gimp it comes up as Unknown file type. I have the newest gimp 2.6 and it hasn't loaded any of this since i got it.

It sounds like gimp can not find its plug-in folder
or its bin folder.
Check out the environment variables and make sure the path to Gimps bin folder is in the PATH variable list.
