Plug-in instatlion it on Mac, OSX 10.6.Which one -.py or .scm?

I'm new to GIMP. Have it installed  it on Mac, OSX 10.6. and works OK.

Want to download and install some more plugins/filters.

They come as two types : as .py and .scm . For example: plugin-trace.pyengrave_0.scm

The question: which type works in Mac platform - .py or .scm?

Any easy to undertand advise will be much appresiated?

Thanks in advance!

.SCM will always work,
.PY will only work if you have python installed.

Snow Leopard includes python 2.5 & 2.6. So You can install both. Use always python when possible (live preview).

BUT, to get the plugins actually working in OSX is trickier than under Linux or Windows.
You almost always need to set executable rights to the file, or the plugin will not show up in Gimp. This is done by using Terminal command (chmod 755 filename) or a third-party application. Like this free tool: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/6440/batchmod
