LineBorder-2.4.2.zip70.44 KB

A python conversion of my script-fu Line border script ( This version uses python-glade dialogs. It allows to create smaller and much clever input dialog and integrate much more functions. On other side, due to missing support of glade dialogs from Gimp, there is not possble to run this script in batch mode.

Current features:

  • All sizes could be specified in pixels or percents
  • Border corners and lines corners could be rounded
  • Multiple lines of text
  • Different font for eeach text
  • Texts coud be also placed on left, right or upper border
  • A watermark support (text or logo)
  • Translations (cs, nl)

If you found a bug or have a wish, please let me know. Thanks.

  • Profiles (create/update/delete/rename)
  • Fill border with pattern
  • Allow to put Exif information inside the border
  • Allow batch mode
  • Use own script parameters dialog (Glade)
  • Allow more text options (each text in different font...)
  • Large border also in % of image Angle with round (if possible) (JacqDjo)
  • Sign (text, and color) in image with choice corner (JacqDjo)
  • Put text on right border of image instead under
  • Translations

You need a gimp with python support installed.

  • Extract content of the zip archive to the ~/.gimp2.6/plug-ins/ directory
  • Make script executable (chmod og+x ~/.gimp2.6/plug-ins/
  • Script is installed under Filters/Decor/Borders/ as Line Border 2

Have you already a translation file (.po) for me??

you can download the .pot file from

Or give me a language you want to translate and I'll generate the po file for you.

I like the look of the Python-fu version UI and would love to get it running with the extra options that it provides.
I have Gimp 2.6.11 installed on a computer with OS Windows XP.
This is set up with the necessary files to run Python plug-ins and
I have successfully run other Python plugins.
I have downloaded and (I think) correctly installed LineBorder2
... That is extracted from the zip file to my Gimp 2.6 personal plug-ins folder
... I could not see how the second instruction for installing fitted and this might be my problem.
It shows up in the menu system in the proper place.
However it appears to do nothing at all when I call it.
Has anyone else with Windows given this a try?
And if so have you any suggestions as to where I might be missing something?

Not working on 32 bit Vista. With or without libglade.dll. Shows in menu, does not activate when selected. Using 2.6.11.

could you run gimp from the terminal to see whether there is some error? Or maybe there is something in the GIMP Error console? (in menu: Windows/ Dockable Dialogs/ Error Console)

maybe, could you follow the installation guide on ?
The important is the libglade library. I though it is part of the gimp-python installation, but probably not.

-Nice plugin I've still the old one installed but now I will install this one and see if I get it running on a XP pro SP3 system. I don't expect any problems installing it.

-@Mahvin which version of libglade are you using? I've seen different versions. Have you put libglade in the correct directory and registered it??

-@Mkyral is it possible to fill the border with a pattern?? A member from the dutchgimpers group asked for that.

-@mkyral is it possible to put a part of the exif information in the borderline??

-@Mkyral is it possible to fill the border with a pattern?? A member from the dutchgimpers group asked for that.

Probably, I'm only not sure, how to allow to choose the pattern. There is not such button in glade. Maybe by name.

-@mkyral is it possible to put a part of the exif information in the borderline??

It looks like there is currently no Exif support in python-fu. So I'm not able to extract exif data from gimp object.

After a while searching I found something here.

You have to add this library to use exif information with Python.

but I would like to avoid external libraries. But maybe there could be some check whether is the library installed and if yes, will be used. I'll think about it. Or maybe better solution could be to implement the exif support directly into python-fu and set patch to Gimp developers.

For now, my priority are profiles: allow to save your frequently used configurations. I had some Idea, but it looks like I need to design it a little bit different.
