cropping a piece out of center of photo

I have a photo of kids sitting together on floor.
One child is way to the right and I want to crop out space between her and other kids.
How do I do that?
I created a rectangle in the space I want gone and deleted it.
How do I get the two pices of picture together?

What you will probably need to do is duplicate the layer, slide the kids together, and erase the unwanted part of the upper layer.
