How to edit text in a PDF file created by scanning a page?

I am a real newbie with Gimp....

I have a PDF file that was created when I scanned in a page of graphics/text using my Canon scanner.

I would like to edit some of the text and ensure that the new text will look just like the original in regards to font, font size, vertical alignment and so forth. Is this possible using Gimp on a PDF file created by a scanner?

Do I need a special plugin?

Any information on the plugin needed, if any, and some instructions is greatly appreciated.

Use the text tool, adjust the options like font, font size, spacing, hinting, ... and hope that you'll be able to match the existing text.
