help to add a custom file format

Sorry for posting such a trivial help request:
I'm working with a custom file format that is easily convertible to and from a 32 bit color depth uncompressed BMP format (I have the source code to do that...).
Could someone provide the source code example for a similar custom file format plugin (something where I could replace the custom format conversion with my own) and directions about how to make that a GIMP 2.0 plugin and install it?
Thank you very much.

File handling (load and save) is handled by plugins in Gimp.

Most are written in C, and you can use them as a template. Here is the bmp handler code:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/tree/plug-ins/file-bmp

I beleive you can also write a file handler in python. The python docs are here:
http://www.gimp.org/docs/python/index.html

And a sample is the open raster file handler:
