WMF Reading On MAC OSX 10.5.x

A separate program for analysis has created large .wmf files which i need to edit a bit. Adobe Illustrator hangs when it tries to parse them. I am trying gimp and it cannot render the files. It displays a resolution of 1 x 1 even when i insert the correct resolution it fails.

Any help is appreciated.
