XMP extension for gimp

Im looking for a way to either convert series of xmp files for use in gimp or a way to read them. Im not familiar with these files. A "professional" photographer recently screwed around with me and these are how ive recieved the files. I would apreciate the help

Those are metadata files. I doubt that the photos are in those files -- look at the file properties of one and find the file size. Report back.
