Diagonal Grid

Creates a new layer with a grid, rotated 45 degrees, to help you choose corners for cropping.

Move the grid until a line intersects a feature in your image, then crop so that the grid line meets a corner of your cropping rectangle. You can then use the grid to choose the opposite corner, but make sure you don't change either of the sides of your original corner.

Wow, I'm completely Gimp Illiterate!

I happened upon Gimp on the Microsoft free download page nearly a year ago. It sat unused in my program files except for the use of correcting personal photos. However, for the past 4 months i have been learning new things in college (i will be a graphic designer) and little by little am finding out what a treasure I have in the Gimp program! Although I am self taught, through reading, some things are still not clear to me. I noticed that the people who are running into difficulty with certain situations are still far more advanced in their understanding of the program and computer terminology. So, here goes my question, and I hope you can lower your IQ to my level for the brief moment I hope it takes to explain in the most elementary terms of how I may go about installing a plug in. Specifically, I would like the Diagonal Grid to add to my Gimp. I'm glad I saw this, for I have long awaited a diagonal option for editing....remember, I know very little about what I am doing. But, hopefully someone can explain step by step how to install a plug-in into my computer/Gimp program. Thank you so very much! ~LM

How To Load .scm files

Download the *.scm files into the c:\program files\gimp 2.0\share\gimp\2.0\scripts folder. Plugins should go into the c:\program files\gimp 2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plugins folder. I've read different tutorials that tell you to put them in your User\(your user name)\.gimp 2.x.x folder, but I strongly advise against doing that if you are using the PSPI.exe plugin (the PSPI plugin allows you to use Photoshop and PSP plugins with GIMP). For some reason, (not sure if its a Vista OS related issue or not) placing scripts and plugins in the user's GIMP folder causes conflict with the PSPI.exe plugin when plugins are located in both folder destinations. If you are using this plugin, it needs to be placed in the destination listed in the 2nd sentence above and pointed to in folder settings (found under Edit - Preferences - Folders. One other important note, if you are using the PSPI plugin, it has problems with plugins that aren't code written in standard English. One faulty plugin will prevent the rest from working. It's a time consuming task going through plugins one by one until you find the one bad one.

How to install

This node has a nice explanation of how to install scripts.
