You say with more than 256 colors.. Does that mean I can't get under the 40 kb limit? Because I can make animations, but I always have to make them with 55-100 colors.
I have created gif-animations with well over 3 Megabytes, and have seen far bigger ones...
As far as i know, the GIF format allows for a global color table and an additional one for each frame, all of them having about 255 colors. This plugin (with the help of the gifsicle program) allows animations to use the local tables, whereas the built-in function only uses the global one.
I recently downloaded GAP for GIMP 2.6, changed the new folder to 2.6 from 2.0, started gimp, did edit/pref/folder/plug-ins and scripts restarted GIMP and nothing, I see no sign of it. When I start GIMP a message saying "file svg.exe has stopped working " comes up. I choose close program and GIMP resumes normally as far as I can tell.
Is this preventing plug-ins from functioning? If not how do I connect GAP to GIMP 2.6? I'm using a 32-bit laptop with Windows Vista OS.
Have also problems getting GAP working correcty in Gimp 2.6 under Windows Vista.
The menu is in Gimp under the Video section but when I try one of the sub-menus, 10% of these work but the rest generates error messages.

Greetings,
I've been using gifsicle for quite some time, and really love it.
I was quite happy to discover that someone had made a Gimp plugin for it.
But sadly, I found it doesn't work;
That is, when placed into the plug-ins/ folder, and starting Gimp, I discover that
the Gimp has no idea this plugin in available - it will not show up anywhere in
Gimp. I've carefully checked the perlscript, and all the paths are correct.
So it is clear that this plugin doesn't properly register itself with the Gimp.
Is this plugin for some older version of the Gimp? I run Gimp 2.6, on UNIX (*BSD).

Your GIMP can run Perl
Your GIMP can run Perl scripts? That's not included by default, you likely had to install additional packages.
