GIMP Plugin Registry

Hi gens,

i'm a new GIMP user, and i cannot find support for image stored in NEF file format. (the image file format used by the Nikon Cameras)
Is this because this is not supported or because i don't have a proper plug-in?
Any help would be much appreciated.
