Print.exe

whenever i go to print something i get this message: print.exe has stopped working.
then a popup says: Plug-in crashed: "print.exe"
(C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\print.exe)
The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

can anyone tell me how i can fix this?

Forums:

There is a solution. Delete print.exe and replace it with winprint.exe from 2.2.17. Gimp 2.2.17 can be downloaded here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=121075 Instructions and discussion here: http://www.nabble.com/Printing-From-GIMP-td18263119.html “The print plug-ins are both found in \lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins. It is the same location for GIMP 2.2.17. If you don't already have GIMP 2.2.17, download it from Sourceforge.net. Be sure to change install directory from the default location to GIMP-2.2 or it will overwrite your 2.4 files. Once downloaded, navigate to the directory mentioned above and copy and paste in the same location in the GIMP-2.0 directory tree.” I tried it and it works fine.

I was unsuccessful with the above mentioned fix authored by Dibbling. However, I have discovered the proven method listed below:
Fix for this is to download:
GTK+ Runtime Environment version 2.4.14

It appears that the print environment for GIMP runs off of GTK+Runtime drivers.

I hope this helps.

Gimp used to work, but I had some rolling blackouts in Dallas, Texas that required a change in printers. After that it didn't work, same exact error. I suspect HP's new drivers scragged it. I've bought a new old printer as the previous one, same make and model with no joy. Ditto on uninstalling Gimp and reinstalling it.

I have several XP machines in the house, I could try pulling the file "print.exe" off them, but I was curious where I could get the GTK files mentioned about if it doesn't work.

I really would like to have GIMP back. Thanks.

OK, it is obvious the Gimp version of print.exe that is the problem, so I guess I need to figure out when the downloads are.
-------------------------------------
Found the downloads for GTK 2.4.14, still no joy. Now to try dibblings method.
-------------------------------------
Joy, sort of. Installed GTK 2.4.14, then installed Gimp 2.2.17 , it was a very buggy install, and several errors occur starting the file. This version of Gimp is totally different than the 2.6.11 I was using (I don't like 2.2.17 a bit). It did print however. I'll keep plugging.
------------------------------------
Better, I reinstalled 2.6.11 over 2.2.17, and it works. It is a little different than the previous install, but I guess I can't have everything.

I never use GIMP to print. Had problems/issues many years ago and just gave up. I use a surrogate (mainly Irfanview) to print my creates when that rare event is needed. I even tried gutenprint (when it became available for windows many years ago) but to no avail (never bothered to reinstall after I upgraded to Win7). Just wanted to pass that on to you all to ingest. :)
