yes actually first impression is that to use greycstoration is needed discover how manipulate 12 sliders 2 checkboxex and a couple of other controls most not documented in the user guide but then 8 sliders are for...let call it "classic greycstoration smoothing" that one is described in the documentation, if that "classic greycstoration smoothing"is active as in default then the 4 sliders between the 2 checkbox become inactive (but to confuse users more they can be well moved, only changing their setting will no change nothing) of this first group of 8 sliders and 1 checkbox first 5 sliders are BASIC, may be the basic group of the first tab THEN 1 checkbox( the approximation checkbox,) + 1 slider( number of iteration) both may be well moved in the related ADVANCED menu 2 sliders (the somehow mysterious "spatial step" and "angular step") here a problem nobody seems to know for what are that 2 sliders for, any even dramatic changes to their settings seems have no percetible effect in the output...no trace of their functions in the documentation...i even ask about on the Greycstoration forum on Sourceforge but nobody was able to reply from 2007 http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1738489&forum_id=423277 Anyhow if someone may explain the function of that 2 user controls, and is proved that they may produce some visible changes in the final result .... i believe will better move both in the ADVANCED sector. ################################### 2 "Patch" then there is a new algorithm used that provide quite different result actually the switch is offered by the "patch" checkbox if patch is checked the previous group of slider become inactive (users have to refine their Extra Sensorial Perceptions to discover what slider are active and which not , no hint is offered from the gui) and become active the second group of sliders that between the 2 checkbox the functions of this 4 slider seem not documented in the user guide neither their names help a guess "Patch" with his sliders would be better moved on a new tab is in half simple to no require a ADVANCED sector. (but tooltips for clarify those sliders function seem needed ) ############################### then tooltip for sliders are badly needed just 1 example the "Noise scale" slider...since Greyctoration is to remove noise user may well suppose that a lower noise scale correspond to a less noisy final result But is almost the opposite, that is the level of..hum..let it call "the smoothing noise"used to smear the imagine noise if low less smoothing will be done so in practice final result will be more noisy..i and if on he contrary , noise scale is very hight, close to the maximum final imagine will be not noisy on the contrary will be completely blurred... basically the contrary of the effect that user may reasonably expect from the slider name. ..at least a tooltip is needed to correct that ############################## Last but not last Greycstoration now abort in gimp 2.5 because use a deprecated gimp plugin library..so i believe are good chances that as is now will not work on next Gimp 2.6 ################################# Then "inpainting" and "rescaling" features are not yet implemented as the option to smooth some peculiar color channel and 2 trivial, not confusing but always useful option missed 1 output on a new layer 2 output on a new image
