Clone and Heal tool not working

Clone and heal tool are not working. I have uninstalled and installed gimp and problem still not resolved. You can sample the area, but the clone and heal tool has forbidden sign in it. How can I fix this?

Forums:

Have you read the documentation for the tools?

2009? Well, it's never too late if one still has the same problem and can't find a direct, legitimate answer without screening numerous addresses from numerous re-phrased Google searches.

I just now experienced having the same problem for absolutely no accountable reason, other than the other day I upgraded from Windows XP Pro SP2 to SP3

Previously I have been having no problem with my healing and clone brushes.

Suddenly they stopped working. I would click on one of the two brushes and just as soon as I selected an area on my canvas and clicked and held "control" and left clicked the area, I would notice the selected brush would undo itself as a selection.

I tried everything; uninstalling using Revo uninstaller (the best) and re-installing. I tried reading all the GIMP info I could gather but nothing directly addresses this point.

Well; credit Yahoo answers for a response from 3 years ago.

Here is how to fix your brushes to work just like old:

Both Brushes: When you select the brush, look in the tool box at the mode (drop down list). I saw that mine was set on erase. I reset it back to normal. I also had to go into the menu at the top of the screen and select image and open the drop down up there and select the 2nd item (mode) and choose RGB instead of what it had been set on; indexed

Why this happened I haven't a clue!!!

Funny thing is, it keeps wanting to go back to "indexed" when I go back to select heal brush. Tut tut! But at least I have my old reliable GIMP back, even though it is a bit temperamental at the moment.

I hope this helps someone.

My GIMP version is 2.6.11. Can't wait for 2.8! Thanks a bunch GIMP people. You are the very kindest and most considerate to people who do not have a whole lot of money to spend.

I just want people to know that I just now signed up on this forum just so I could print this answer. That is how sincere I am about GIMP and the good that it does to help people make the Internet a more exciting and interesting place to browse.

Happy GIMP'ing

This also worked for me! Thanks.
