Downloading plug-ins. Help!

I want to dowload several plug-ins off here that are in scm. files.

People i have asked have told me just to click on the link like the one i want to download : layerfx.scm.

Then what do i do?
It comes up with a screen full of text.
How do I download and install them?

thanks.

hmmm

in windows

1

go to Start/Search/option there UNCHECK "hide extension for commune files"  CHECK "allow search for hidden and system files" That is to avoid the most commune problem on Windows, it will try to save your "something.scm" script as "something.scm.txt" then will hide :"t.xt" that is a commune file extension, so you will have no clue for what went wrong- that solves

Nows for saving everything similar to text, including gimp script, Windows offer 2 options 1

The first is very visible ,the default, save as .txt that is the WRONG OPTION

where you see ."txt" option that is a drop down menu, expand to find the other option save as "ALL FILES" that is the RIGHT ONE s

if you survived till here move the script to

for XP

C:/Documents and Settings/ YOUR NAME/.gimp/ script

For VISTA

C:/Users/ YOUR NAME/.gimp/ script

this is ONLY FOR SCRIPT FU

for download PLUGIN you should have no problem,( windows version end always with ."exe" estension )

PLUGIN should be placed in the plugin folder that usually is in

for XP

C:/Documents and Settings/ YOUR NAME/.gimp/plugin

For VISTA

C:/Users/ YOUR NAME/.gimp/plugin

... to right-click on the link and then select something like "save link target as..." (the wording depends on your browser). When your familiar file-selection-dialog comes up

  • On linux, save in ~/.gimp-x.y/scripts (where x.y stands for your gimp-version, i.e. 2.4)
  • On windoze, search for files *.scm and put it in that directory.

Then (re-)start The GIMP and enjoy...
