I made a banner that took 6 hours, and now it won't work. When I filter it as an animation, I can watch it and it works fine.
But, after I export it in GIF format, it is a still frame of the last layer... How can I fix this?
It should work.
(or From yourfile.xcf, Filters>Animation>Optimize (for GIF) and then File>Export to>..etc...)
I am having this same problem, when i do Filter>Animation>Playback it works fine in the test but when i save it then it doesn't play on any browser or site i load it to nor when i right click and Preview.
It saved as gif but i sure didn't get the
"new window named "Export Image as GIF":
- Tick "As Animation"
- Tick "Loop forever"
- Select the delay between frames
- etc.. (read all the options)
- Click on "Export" button
I have the most recent gimp its only about a 2 week old D/L not sure what the problem is Iv used it before and done many a animations never had this problem only now with this newer export type feature they changed.
The same thing is happening to me as well! Even after I save something as a gif file, afterwards I go to the folder its in, click on it and it turns out to be a jpeg image
Make sure that you have "By extension" selected in the export dialog file type chooser.
I can't reproduce this.
My initial guess was that maybe an overwrite (per the menu entry) of a previously exported GIF file would flatten it, but the layers are kept in this case, as are their delays.
Please tell us what you do.
My initial guess is that you dont have the latest version... what a smart fellow because
The problem here is that when following the older tutorials saying to name your frames "Frame 1 (100ms)(combine)" etc..., the gif does not animate.
1. make frames and label them according to this convention :"Frame 1 (100ms)(combine)"
2. save you .xfc
3. select to export to
4. a window with three buttons pops up (help, export, cancel)
5. click export (because its the only thing that makes sense now that you've broken this once magnificent piece of software)
6. your complex .gif that you just spent hours on is now a non-animated file with no layers when reopened.
(which is why you saved it as .xfc, you did do that... right? ;D)
---Now i want source code or fix, pretty please.----
Refer to here, where there is also no solution
> 4. a window with three buttons pops up (help, export, cancel)
This means that you are hit by a bug - somehow, the UI for the GIF export dialog doesn't show up. This has already been reported, and IIRC the cause has been found. Let me search for it and post it here (unless someone beats me to it).

Ah yes, here it is:
Mixed DLL files in this case, i.e. the following: "So, I moved/ copied some files between GIMP folders following suggestions from other internet users".
Make sure that all the DLL files in GIMP's bin folder are from the current installer, and make sure that you don't have any of them in e.g. the plug-ins folder.
Unless otherwise noted, the rights for the individual plugins are with their respective authors. Logo image by Jakub Steiner.
