Crashes loading fonts

Everytime i go to load gimp it gets about half way done and then gets to the loading fonts database and quits responding there 100% of he time how would i fix this ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and ive deleted all gimp files from my computer then reinstalled and still nothing

How many fonts?

Uninstall/reinstall in Gimp is usually not effective. What is really important is to force Gimp to recreate a new (and hopefully correct) Gimp profile. So rename your profile (C:\Documents and Settings\{yourid}\.gimp-2.8 on XP, C:\USers\{yourid}\.gimp-2.8 on Vista/Seven) and restart Gimp. If it work you can then move back stuff from your previous profile (fonts/brushes/patterns/scripts etc...).

i have tried your solution but it's still not working :'( when i go to the profile, everything is empty anyways, so if i delete it or rename it, gimp makes a new one, i try starting up gimp, nothings changed, it still stops at the same point saying fonts, looking for datafiles, i don't even have a lot of fonts! and there is a lot of space on my computer so it won't be that, and i have windows7 with a new version of gimp, i think it's 2.8

Or the newer 2.7 beta versions?
Perhaps you are talking about RC1?
You haven't really stated which version you are using.
A little more information about your system and version of Gimp would be helpful.

if you have found an effection solution please share it so people who have the same problem may proceed with using gimp

Check for corrupted fonts: I used instructions from:

For me it was a corrupted MS Mincho.ttf

Where did you download the fonts?it's not Gimp's fault, but,it might be where you download the font.

I tried many suggested solutions (reducing number of fonts, deleting font cache, deleting fonts directories, reinstalling all fonts, changing font directories and reinstalling GIMP to different versions). Nothing worked.

This is how I finally fixed this: once I was copying C:\Windows\Fonts to another location. The copy process could not have been completed for one specific font (Mingu). I found out, this font is constantly used by Acrobat, therefore cannot be copied nor deleted. I killed the Acrobat process, deleted the given font and finally loaded GIMP with the fonts (after weeks). Good luck!

on Ubuntu to find the corrupt font I have proceeded in this way.
From terminal I launched gimp
I have used the text tool and I tried to choose a font.
The program crashes giving important information:

(gimp:7690): Pango-WARNING **: failed to create cairo scaled font, expect ugly output. the offending font is 'Sazanami Gothic Medium 16'
(gimp:7690): Pango-WARNING **: font_face status is: out of memory
(gimp:7690): Pango-WARNING **: scaled_font status is: out of memory
(script-fu:7695): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: script-fu: gimp_wire_read(): error

I launched sudo nautilus, I found the font in the /usr/share/fonts
In my case the font is 'Sazanami Gothic Medium 16' and I deleted this
I closed nautilus and terminal I ran the command

sudo fc-cache-f-v

to restore the font cache

I opened gimp and everything works normally :-)
