Gimp Jumps and so does everything else...

Hi there,
I just got the new 2.4 GIMP and I also just had the new updated Ubuntu take over my whole laptop.
When I run GIMP everything seems to slow down. My music skips, my Firefox try's and catches up to my requests which I asked couple minutes ago (exaggerating just abit there)... Is there any way of reducing this problem... or just explain what it could be? It would be great help.

Hi, Brocko again, just wanted to update this forum stating that i have fixed the problem by removing any visual effects that ubuntu can do. System - Appearance - Visual Effects - None: Provides a simple desktop environment with any effects This has helped gimp to keep up with my movements and my music to stop jumping. ;)
