how to use wavelet decompose

Hi Guys,

I found the beautiful wavelet-decompose plug in. But I don't know how to use it for retouching a facial photo.
When I make 6 layers I start to retouch the upper one with a brush color 128,128,128. But how to go on? I can't see any result in the original and how to save it at the end?

Thanks, I am just a beginner.
