GIMP 2.8.2 doesn't open JPG image

In version 2.8.0 I encountered the problem that the program doesn't open jpg !!! files. Searching for the solution, this is a diffused problem and I solve installing the 2.8.1 unofficial version on http://www.partha.com/ page.

Now in new 2.8.2 release the problem is still present !!!

OK, this is a free and open source program, but an error opening the major used file type, is a shame !

No problems here whatsoever.

A common problem with reports like these is that no one except the original reporter can reproduce them - maybe you could make an affected JPEG file available somewhere?

I just installed a 2.8.2 version on win XP and I was not able to open new
JPG's just taken from my camera (An old Lumix DMC LZ2).
I have an older version of Gimp in my office and runs fine.

You will find two shots from the same camera at the same day; the first (a car into a garage) could not be opened by GIMP.
The second (a lazy cat) was opened fine. Why?, I don't know, but I need a fix.

I have Gimp v2.8.2 on win XP, but no problem to open your two photos (2560 x1920). Run Gimp with the "GIMP output" window, maybe it will help you understand the problem ("C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe" -c)

Is your win XP a SP2 or SP3? What error message (look in the error console) does GIMP issue when you try to open jpg image?

when I open console it shows:
(gmp-console-2.8.exe:2720): LibGimpBase-WARNING **: gimp-console-2.8.exe: gimp_wire_read(): error.

I have an SP3.

Not that console (the gimp-console binary can be used to run GIMP without a graphical interface and has nothing to do with debugging problems like yours), but the errors dialog within GIMP.

I'm an aficionado photographer, not a programmer.
So, if you can tell me how can I open such console mode

I opened the error console. The messages are as follows:

" GIMP Error
El complemento ha fallado: «file-jpeg.exe»
(C:\Archivos de programa\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-jpeg.exe)

El complemento que ha fallado puede haber estropeado el estado interno de GIMP. Sería conveniente que guardase todas sus imágenes y reiniciase GIMP, para no arriesgarse.

GIMP Error
La apertura de «C:\Documents and Settings\Administrador\Mis documentos\Mis imágenes\Colón-Victoria-Rosario-diciembre 2012\205_PANA\P2050001.JPG» ha fallado:
El procedimiento «file-jpeg-load» no ha devuelto ningún valor de retorno"

I suppose that it is not that simple as download a new version of "file-jpeg.exe"
and paste it in place of the old one.
Please, tell me if you need a translation from spanish (however my english stinks).

That's the default "the plug-in has dies" error message, not much is to be gained from them.
It could be that problem: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682454

Fixed after 2.8.2 has been released, so 2.8.4 might be able to open the image without problems. It's weird that many people fail to reproduce such problems, though - could mean that something on the affected systems is contributing, too.

I Was Wondering If There Is A Way Yet To Save Jpeg Files. I Use Windows 8 and GIMP 2.8.2...I'm Am Amazed That It Has The Jpeg Issues, The Most Common Graphic File Source Used. Makes Me Wonder If I Should Go Back To GIMP 2.6.

Please could you explain how you try to save a jpeg image? There is no problem with Gimp 2.8 for that.

In 2.8, "Save" can only be used to save complete Gimp project (XCF file and derivatives). Other files types (JPG/PNG/GIF/TIFF) should be "exported" (File/Export).

Hi. I've been using GIMP 2.8.0 for a while with no trouble whatsoever. Today I tried to open some JPGs and I kept getting this error: "El complemento ha fallado: «file-jpeg.exe» (C:\Archivos de programa\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins\file-jpeg.exe)".

I thought it something went wrong with it, so I installed 2.8.2.. and I keep getting same error. I've restarted PC... and tried again.. and again.
I've check the ERROR CONSOLE as suggested and this is the outcome:

I've managed to solve the problem, by installing nightly build from (http://nightly.darkrefraction.com/gimp/) 2013-01-18.

Issue was explained in (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=682454) Around comment 16 it says to do so.
