Cannot Open Jpegs in Gimp 2.8.2

Hi
My question is not related to saving files in different formats, I get that. My problem is I cannot open any jpeg files in 2.8.2 under Fedora 17. Now this is really bad.
When I try I get the error in the attachment. Please could someone give me a hand with this?

Could be a problem specific to your setup or to Fedora 17....
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/applications/Gnu%20Image%20Manipul... seems to tell me that Fedora 17 comes with 2.8.0, so you've built 2.8.2 yourself or got it from a third-party site?
