auto processing a lot of scanned image with gimp ?

i have tons of scanned pages full of text. i have to clean up the noise, make the texts darker, turn the background into white ... but almost of actions i do is select an area in the pic and remove the noise outside that area. pls tell me how i can automation that actions with gimp ?
