Save for Web allows to find compromise between minimal file size and acceptable quality of image quickly. While adjusting various settings, you may explore how image quality and file size change. Options to reduce file size of an image include setting compression quality, number or colors, resizing, cropping, Exif information removal, etc.

plugin works just fine in
plugin works just fine in GIMP 2.8.x under Win 7. If you could not get it to work there is something you didn't do right. Unzip webexport executable file in C:/Users/Username/.gimp2.8/plugins folder and open GIMP. Plugin's menu path is File>Save for web...
save for web is OK for the 2.8 native version for Mac
Since The Gimp 2.8 is now native for Mac OS X, "Save for web" pluggin still work ? How can we install it ?

This is a must have for any webmaster that want lightning fast loading on a lot of websites. Just using it with default settings result in very light images, with very few quality loss and it's just great. Using it on a daily basis on almost all my pictures

Alternate package for save images as web items
This is alternate package for this and simple install in linux openSUSE 12.1. Just double click this gimp-save-for-web-0.29.0-8.1.x86_64.rpm and package manager will finish installation. :D
