installing plugins and fonts?

I have this problem (I'm using a mac), my plugins and fonts folder isn't in the folder shared under resources? i think it is supposed to? my fonts are under etc. and my plugins are under resources/lib/gimp/2.0 and then it says plugin. But when I'm saving plugins in the folder it doesn't work!? i really don't know what to do! and with the fonts in the folder fonts, i do the same i save it in fonts but it never shows up in gimp? plz help me cuz i don't know what to do!!!!
