just right click in the image window and select Edit>Paste as new image.
Or you can open any image in Gimp by going to
File>Open (browse to the image you want to open on your computer)
File>Open as layers (open multiple images as different layers)
File>Open location (This will open any image URL)
File>Open Recent (opens recently opened documents)
To save it go to File>Save and another dialog will open for you to select an extension and location to save your image.
To copy an image from the clipboard into Gimp
