Gimp Normal Map Plugin

Hello!

I'll keep this short. I wanted to install the NM plugin for Gimp, but, for some reason, the folder in Program Files that it requires doesn't exist. If I try to create the folder and copy the respective files there, it still doesn't work.

My guess is that somewhere along the way, Gimp stopped using the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin" folder and is now using a GTK 2.0 subfolder in the installed directory. Thing is, I don't know which one is equivalent to the one used by this plugin, or if it would even work considering the paths might be hard-coded.

Any advice on this matter is greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

cc

Hey there, i just encountered this same issue, i fixed it by placing those 2 .dll's your refering to (the ones that they tell you to put in the now non-existent folder /program files/common files/gtk 2.0) in the same folder (Plugins) as the .exe and the glew.dll. Good luck I hope this works for you too. -Sevenz

normalmap.exe failed to start bc libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll was not found

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Download gimp-normalmap-win32-1.2.2.zip
2.Extract normalmap.exe to GIMP plugins directory. Usually this directory is located at "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins". Then extract the 3 .dll files contained in the archive to your GIMP bin directory. This directory is usually located at "C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\bin

3. Click on normalmap.exe application installed in the GIMP plugins directory. The error message that appears says:

"normalmap.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

No this is not the expected output. Instead I see an error message that says: "normalmap.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

What version of the product are you using?

GIMP 2.8

On what operating system?

Windows vista

Please provide any additional information below.

ligdk-win32-2.0-0.dll is indeed installed in the GIMP bin as the readme instructs.
Re-installing the normalmap.exe does not resolve this problem.

What is the solution?

where are plug-ins themselves?

The plug-in can be found here:

I am trying to create 3D models with blender and require Gimp Normal Map.

I have downloaded the plug-in from this website and commenced to compile. I am running with Ubuntu 10.10 and Gimp 2.6.10 and Blender 2.49b.

The following are the results of the "make" command.

gcc -c -O3 -Wall `pkg-config --cflags gtk+-2.0 gtkglext-1.0 gimp-2.0` normalmap.c
Package gtkglext-1.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gtkglext-1.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gtkglext-1.0' found
Package gimp-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `gimp-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'gimp-2.0' found
normalmap.c:26: fatal error: gtk/gtk.h: No such file or directory
compilation terminated.
make: *** [normalmap.o] Error 1

The install instructions for Windows is: make WIN32=1

Seeing as I run Ubuntu, I tried both 'make' and 'make LINUX=1' (without the quotes) with the same result as above.

Can anyone offer a suggestion or two or three?

Regards

J

ps: All of the packages installed, that are mentioned in the errors, are versions higher than what is required.

You may install gimp-plugin-registry package for your system (with normalmap and other plugins).

Hi, to compile all, I have installed all these dependencies (Ubuntu 12.10 packages name, I don't know in other distributions):

  • gimp-plugin-registry (as spoilt_exile said)
  • gimp-dev
  • libgimp2.0-dev
  • libgtksourceview2.0-dev
  • libgtkglext1-dev
  • libglew1.5-dev
