HELP! Image Editing Problem

Hello everyone....I really need someone's help....I have an "jpg" image that is compressed and I need to edit it.

How do I open the layers in an image that has already been compressed so that I can edit them?

If someone can please help me out, I would appreciate it.

AFAIK jpg format doesnt suport layers. F.e. when you are saving layered image in gimp as jpg, the application must first "flatten" it (merge all layers into one) to be able to save it.
